Sections

Sections of AAEM give members the opportunity to get more involved in AAEM in an area that they are especially interested in. Sections all have their own bylaws and members pay dues to be a part of the section. See below for more information regarding the different AAEM sections that you can join.

Be a Section Champion Leader - Call For Nominations

AAEM Section elections are democratic – YOU nominate and elect your leaders! Sections are seeking nominations from Section members for the 2022-23 Council term. If you know someone who will be a great leader for the Section, nominate them when Section Leadership Nominations open on January 3, 2022. Self-nominations are allowed and encouraged!

Submit a Nomination for Your Section:

 

Positions Available (one-year term):

Assists the Chair in running Council meetings and managing the Section. Promotes the AAEM mission by increasing Section membership through recruiting new members and developing valuable engaging member benefits for attendings. The Chair-Elect ascends to the roll of Chair the following year. The Chair is the principal executive council member and shall preside over membership meetings of the Section and of the Section Council. The Section Chair shall also perform other duties as prescribed by the Council or AAEM. Upon completion of the Chair term, the individual shall automatically ascend to the office of Immediate Past Section Chair.

Oversees the finances and membership of the Section and attends Section meetings. The Secretary provides a short summary following the recent Council meeting for posting on the Council website and via MyAAEM. (AAEM staff take the official minutes). The Secretary/Finance Chair shall work to engage Section members through developing valuable member benefits and communicating with members via MyAAEM, social media and other resources.

Attend Section Council meetings and serve as work group leads for one or more Section activities/initiatives and/or events.

Assists with organizing webinars, networking and mentorship opportunities to recruit, engage, and sustain students and residents in the Section.

 

 

Critical Care Medicine Section

Critical care is an ever revolving field with major advances, and the goals for this section are to keep you up-to-date by writing guidelines or position statements, networking, developing a job database, and providing mentorship. The Critical Care Medicine Section (CCMS-AAEM) aims to engage your clinical interests.

Emergency Medical Services Section

We are excited to announce the new Emergency Medical Services Section of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine (EMSS-AAEM)! Our section is founded to foster the professional development of its members and to educate them regarding emergency medical services.

Emergency Ultrasound Section

We are excited to announce the new Emergency Ultrasound Section of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine (EUS-AAEM)! Our section is founded to foster the professional development of its members and to educate them regarding point of care ultrasound.

Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Section

The purpose of the JEDI section is to promote and increase diversity throughout the practice of emergency medicine (including but not limited to race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation and ability) throughout our subspecialty at every level of leadership.

Women in Emergency Medicine Section

The Women in Emergency Medicine Section (WiEMS-AAEM) is constituted with a vision of equity for AAEM women in emergency medicine and a purpose to champion the recruitment, retention, and advancement of women in emergency medicine through the pillars of advocacy, leadership, and education.

Young Physicians Section

AAEM Young Physicians Section (YPS-AAEM) membership is open to all emergency medicine residency-trained Fellow-in-Training, Associate or Full Voting members of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine who are within the first five years of professional practice after residency or fellowship training.
