REP encompasses a broad spectrum of topics and provides you with the knowledge and skill sets to expertly resuscitate conditions such as adult and pediatric cardiac arrest, acute respiratory failure, and life-threatening critical disorders in the areas of neurocritical care, trauma, and sepsis. EPs who want to take a single resuscitation course taught at an advanced level (rather than taking ACLS, PALS, and ATLS) will find REP to be an outstanding experience. Course Description: This course explores the fundamentals of critical care to prepare medical students and interns for the demands of the specialty as it applies to emergency medicine. Through a flipped-classroom approach, online sessions will cover essential topics, including arterial blood gas/CBC/BMP interpretation, oxygen therapy and mechanical ventilation, drug therapy (analgesics, sedatives, and paralytics), intra-aortic balloon pump therapy, and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). You’ll also delve into pediatric and neonatal critical care, hemodynamic and intracranial pressure monitoring, cardiac pacing and implantable cardiac devices, as well as fluid therapy, massive transfusion, and POCUS ultrasonography.
The course culminates in an in-person practical at AAEM’s Annual Scientific Assembly, offering hands-on opportunities to master rapid sequence intubation (RSI), cricothyroidotomy, mechanical ventilation knobology, and POCUS ultrasonography.
The majority of the course takes place online, with the capstone hands-on session providing the perfect opportunity to apply what you’ve learned in real-world, high-intensity scenarios.
Registration for the Introduction to Critical Care in Emergency Medicine is administered separately from Scientific Assembly. Please see https://www.aaemrsa.org/education/iccem/ for more information.

Course Description: This fast-paced, hands-on workshop is designed to enhance the practical skills of emergency physicians in ventilator management and advanced airway management skills. As the acuity and complexity of critically ill patients in the emergency department (ED) continue to grow, proficiency in both invasive airway techniques and post-intubation ventilator strategies is essential. Participants will gain confidence in managing difficult airways and in optimizing mechanical ventilation in the ED. We will cover ventilator mechanics and how to troubleshoot difficult scenarios, and alternatives to classic laryngoscopy such as fiberoptics and rescue modalities. This is not the course to miss!
The workshop will focus on practice using real ventilators and high fidelity airway simulation. Attendees are strongly encouraged to attend a virtual pre-course or watch the video lectures that will make sure you are ready to get the most out of this course.
