Course Description

This course will provide background and hands on training on developing, fine-tuning, and running successful simulation education scenarios. Discussion on simulation in healthcare education, appropriate scenario creation, running a scenario, rescuing a failing scenario, and appropriate debriefing will be discussed. We will make use of hands on training from experienced simulation educators and the onsite use of a Laerdal 3G SimMan.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the background and history of simulation in medical education.
  2. Write cases appropriate to learner level with appropriate level learning objectives.
  3. Understand the how cognitive bias and overload effects simulation training.
  4. Practice different techniques for debriefing post simulation.
  5. Run and troubleshoot simulations.
