28th Annual Scientific Assembly

Photo Competition

This competition features case reports and visual data that have educational value to the EM physician.

Submission eligibility: Member and non-member students, residents, and attending physicians

Submission deadline: Monday, November 1, 2021

Withdrawal and revision deadline: Withdrawals and revisions must be received in writing to info@aaem.org by Wednesday, November 3, 2021. No changes can be submitted after that date.

Notification of acceptance: The presenting author of all abstracts submitted will receive notification of acceptance or rejection in February 2022.


Presentation Selection

The top-rated submissions are invited to display their case as a poster at Scientific Assembly on Monday, April 25 or Tuesday, April 26. Posters will be judged onsite and the author of the winning poster will receive a plaque. 

Submission Requirements

Submissions must include: 

  • Chief complaint, history of present illness, pertinent physical exam, clinical questions and answers, case discussion, and pearls (key take-aways)
  • At least one photograph of the patient, pathology specimens, Gram stains, EKGs, and radiographic studies or other visual data
  • Contact information for each author
  • Disclosures of relevant financial relationships for each author

Previous Presentations of Cases

Cases published as an article on or before November 1, 2021, may not be submitted. Cases that have been presented at the national meetings of other organizations may not be submitted. Cases that have been presented at international meetings may be submitted. You may submit this case to future conferences and publications. Cases currently under consideration for other conferences or publications may be submitted. 

Informed Consent

Any studies involving human subjects must conform to the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki of the World Medical Association (Clinical Research 1966; 14:103) and must meet all the requirements governing informed consent of the country in which the research was performed.

Case Publication

Cases presented at AAEM’s 28th Annual Scientific Assembly may be used on AAEM Online for continuing medical education purposes. All authors and contributors will be appropriately credited.
