Course Description

This course is designed to provide the experienced emergency physician with an evidence-based review course for all of the required readings for the 2020 LLSA Review. Course content will be discussed both via PowerPoint® and through small group discussion on key topics for each mandated journal article.

Learning Objectives

This course is designed for the experienced emergency physician who is required to pass the ABEM 2020 LLSA exam. At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Brief review of acute diarrheal infections in adults.
  2. Review of evaluation and management of acute myocardial infarction.
  3. Discuss signs of physical abuse of children.
  4. Evaluation of Acute lower gastrointestinal bleeding
  5. Review of Necrotizing soft-tissue infections
  6. Evaluation of non-penetrating eye injuries in children.
  7. Discuss emergency department prescription opioid policy.
  8. Review the pediatric airway and rapid sequence intubation in trauma.
  9. List important aspects of the management of pediatric shock.
  10. Indications for Idarucizumab use in reversal of dabigatran.
  11. Understand the safe use of magnetic resonance imaging in patients with cardiac devices.
  12. Review evaluation of acute spinal cord compression.
  13. List indications for thrombectomy for stroke at 6 to 16 hours with selection by perfusion imaging
