NLRB Orders Election for PRN Representation
William Schaub Jr., Detroit regional director for the NLRB, has directed
The Wellness Plan to hold a union representation election for physician
employees who want to be represented by the AMA's new national negotiating
organization, the Physicians for Responsible Negotiation. The PRN filed
a petition to represent the doctors in late December, but The Wellness
Plan argued at hearings in January that all the physicians requesting
the representations were supervisors and thus not eligible for a bargaining
unit. Schaub found for the doctors in his February 11 decision. He also
determined that their request for a physicians-only unit was appropriate.
The doctors are now asking that the plan voluntarily recognize a PRN unit
instead of going through the election procedure.
