Nominations Now Open for the 2010 YPS Election

Nominations are now being accepted for AAEM's Young Physicians Section (YPS) board of directors. These positions give interested individuals the opportunity to become involved with the leadership and development of this section in AAEM. Members of YPS are encouraged to review the list of positions below and submit a nomination before the December 15, 2009, deadline. Elections for the 2010 YPS board of directors will be held in January 2010. Self-nominations are allowed and encouraged. Only AAEM/YPS members may run for the board and vote, so encourage your colleagues to join YPS today!

All candidates for a position on the board of directors should plan on participating in regular conference calls which last approximately one hour (usually held once a month). One in-person board meeting will be held during the 16th Annual AAEM Scientific Assembly in Las Vegas in February 2010. Board members should plan on being actively involved on a regular basis and should be highly motivated towards the development of this section.

The following board of director positions are open for nominations with a brief description of duties following each position:

Executive Committee:
* President - Responsible for guidance of the section and leading the YPS board of directors.
* Vice President - Assists the president in guiding the section and leading the board of directors.
* Secretary/Treasurer - Controls YPS finances and maintains the budget.

At-Large Board Members:
* Four at-large board positions are available on the YPS board of directors. In addition to attending board meetings, each at-large member will be asked to serve in one of the roles listed below. Assignments will be determined by the president, with every effort made to ensure that board members are assigned to the roles they desire.

1. Events Committee Chair - organizes our presence at national emergency medicine meetings, including social gatherings such as the RSA/YPS social at Scientific Assembly.

2. Website Committee Chair - leads the website committee, whose primary role is to maintain and improve the online presence of YPS at www.ypsaaem.org.

3. Membership Committee Chair - assembles and presides over the membership committee, whose primary role is to coordinate efforts to increase the YPS membership.

4. Editorial Committee Chair - serves as contact for the YPS section of the AAEM newsletter, "Common Sense," recruiting authors and contributing with regular submissions to the section.

The AAEM/YPS board of directors will take their posts at the start of the 16th Annual Scientific Assembly. The term of all positions shall be approximately one year.

Voting for positions will be completed by online ballot. Ballots will be accepted beginning January 4, 2010, and will close January 17, 2010. Please update your email address on file with AAEM if it has changed or was not provided when joining as a member.

All candidates must submit nominations using the online nomination form. Candidate statements are submitted online and will be posted on the website. You may include a digital photo for the website page (optional).
