Journal of Emergency Medicine
Panacek Named New Associate Editor
Edward A. Panacek, MD MPH FAAEM, has been named the second
of two AAEM Associate Editors to The Journal of Emergency Medicine
(JEM). Dr. Panacek will join Raymond Roberge, MD FAAEM, in reviewing
articles and contributing editorial material in AAEM's official journal.
Dr. Panacek is filling the position previously held by Jonathan Adler,
MD FAAEM.
Dr. Panacek is a professor of Emergency Medicine and Emergency
Medicine Residency Director at the University of California, Davis.
Dr. Panacek brings extensive academic and editorial experience
to the JEM Associate Editor position. He has actively reviewed
manuscripts for JEM for the past several years. In addition, he
currently serves as Associate Editor for the Journal of Academic Emergency
Medicine, the official journal of SAEM. Dr. Panacek is a member of
the Editorial Board of the Air Medical Journal and has served as
an invited reviewer for a number of journals including CHEST, JAMA,
Archives of Internal Medicine, Western Journal of Medicine
and Critical Care Medicine.
Dr. Panacek has been an enthusiastic supporter of AAEM since
its inception. As a founding member of the organization, he has been a
strong advocate for AAEM at multiple levels. In his letter of application,
he notes that his "was the first Residency Program to invite (AAEM
founder) Jim Keaney, MD, as a visiting lecturer and we also offered to
give Jim a faculty appointment at that time."
Dr. Panacek was selected from a group of nine very qualified
applicants. "The large number of excellent candidates is a strong
indicator of our continued maturation as an organization," said AAEM
President Robert McNamara, MD FAAEM. "Ed Panacek has long been a
major player in academic Emergency Medicine and AAEM should be proud of
the fact that it will be able to provide the Journal of Emergency Medicine
with such talent from its own membership."
AAEM members are encouraged to submit material, both scientific
and non-scientific, for publication in JEM. Submissions for review
by our associate editors can be sent to AAEM, 555 East Wells Street, Suite 1100, Milwaukee,
WI 53202-3823, Fax: (414) 276-3349, E-mail: info@aaem.org.
Editor's Note: AAEM wishes to thank Jonathan Adler,
