Elections
AAEM is a democratic organization in which the membership elects its leadership. Each of the eight at-large members of the board of directors can be elected to a maximum of three consecutive two-year terms. The president, vice president, secretary-treasurer and three at-large positions are open for the 2010 AAEM Board of Directors elections. Each full voting member of AAEM has a vote for each position and the candidate with the highest total number of votes wins. Each Young Physcians Section (YPS) member has a vote for the YPS member of the board. The term of the YPS member of the board is one year. The YPS board member position is also open for the 2010 elections.
These election procedures are truly what make AAEM unique among professional medical associations. We believe the democratic principles that guide them are one of AAEM's greatest strengths and are a large part of making us the organization of specialists in Emergency Medicine. In AAEM, any individual full voting member can be nominated and elected to the board of directors.
