About AAEM

Elections

AAEM is a democratic organization in which the membership elects its leadership. The president, vice-president, and secretary-treasurer can each be elected to a maximum to two consecutive two-year terms, and each of the eight at-large members of the board of directors can be elected to a maximum of two consecutive three-year terms. Each full voting member of AAEM has a vote for each position and the candidate with the highest total number of votes wins. Each associate member has a vote for the associate member of the board. The term of an associate member of the board is one year with a two term limit.

These election procedures are truly what make AAEM unique among professional medical associations. We believe the democratic principles that guide them are one of AAEM's greatest strengths and are a large part of making us the organization of specialists in Emergency Medicine. In AAEM, any individual full voting members can be nominated and elected to the board of directors.
