AAEM Update - Scientific Assembly Information

AAEM invites you to attend our Scientific Assembly, the premier event in emergency medicine education. This 17th annual gathering will occur Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, February 28 – March 2, 2011, at The Peabody Orlando, Orlando, Florida. As always, there is no registration fee for AAEM members (refundable deposit required).

SPECIAL SCREENING OF “21 AND A WAKEUP” AT SCIENTIFIC ASSEMBLY

Monday night, February 28th, at 8 PM, all attendees are invited to a special screening of “21 and a Wakeup,” a film about the final days of the last Army Hospital in Vietnam, and the heroic doctors and nurses who held it together.

It is the only American film ever allowed to shoot on location in Vietnam.

Sally Van Boheemen, Medical Director of Holland-America, says “I've been a registered nurse for 20 years. This movie is stunning!”

Everett Alvarez, the longest serving POW at the Hanoi Hilton, calls the film “Vividly Detailed…A powerful, dramatic, epic production.”

It has a star-studded cast including Faye Dunaway, Tom Sizemore, Danica McKellar, Ed Begley Jr, JC Chasez, Wes Studi, Amy Acker, Ben Vereen, and Andre Royo.

The theatre is a five minute walk at the Regal Point Orlando just north of the Peabody.

Tickets are available for $20.00 per person and EMZ Releasing will be donating all tickets sales go to the AAEM Foundation.

COUNCIL OF EMS FELLOWSHIP DIRECTORS FORMED

At its January 2011 annual meeting, the National Association of EMS Physicians created the Council of EMS Fellowship Directors as an ad hoc committee. The chair is Dr. David Cone (Yale University); vice-chairs are Dr. Francis Mencl (Summa Health Systems) and Dr. Karl Sporer (UC-San Francisco). Now that EMS is an ABMS-recognized medical subspecialty, ACGME is beginning the process of creating fellowship program requirements, and is expected to begin accrediting EMS fellowship programs in a few years. All EMS fellowship directors are encouraged to join the Council. Contact Dr. Cone at david.cone@yale.edu for additional information.
