Board Certification

Thanks in part to the efforts of AAEM member Richard Paula, MD, the Louisiana State Chapter of ACEP recently passed a resolution requesting that the Louisiana State University Board of Directors employ in emergency departments only those physicians who are board certified in Emergency Medicine by ABEM or AOBEM.

"With LSU assuming control of the Charity Hospital System," Dr. Paula said, "I saw this as a golden opportunity to put some of what AAEM preaches into practice. Having worked in a number of Charity hospitals, I've experienced first-hand physicians who are not board-certified in Emergency Medicine or any other recognized specialty."

With the passage of this resolution, LA/ACEP will move forward with its lobbying efforts, both with LSU and the Louisiana State Medical Society, to implement this policy throughout the Charity Hospital System.
