Register now at www. aaem.org/AAEM16/register.

The AAEM Education Committee diligently maintains the phenomenal quality of emergency medicine’s preeminent educational conference, the AAEM Scientific Assembly. We will provide you with the education you need to take great care of your patients, great care of your practice, great care of yourself, and be at the cutting edge of medical trends and knowledge.

We have had tremendous success over the past several years with educational innovations that we will be building upon this year. As the planning subcommittee co-chairs, we have leveraged the experience and knowledge of Dr. Joseph Lex, Jr., with the energy of a young, dynamic planning subcommittee to bring a topnotch conference to a very popular locale. You will find many old favorites like:

  • Point-Counterpoint
  • When the Shift Hits the Fan
  • Financial Wellness for Physicians
  • Medicolegal Aspects of Emergency Medicine

Also, we will continue with recent successes that have been so popular the past couple of years like the Pecha Kucha sessions for a rapid fire, diverse topic format. These presentations include 20 slides for a review of a single topic in just under seven minutes. These sessions have been tremendously successful for the past two years and will be back in Las Vegas.

There are several stellar pre-conference courses planned for Wednesday, February 17 and Thursday, February 18, which include many perennial favorites as well as new topics to keep you relevant and informed including:

  • Ultrasound — Beginner and Advanced, Didactic and Lab Sessions
  • Simulation — Pediatric and Obstetric Labs
  • Emergency Neurological Life Support (ENLS) Course
Jointly Provided by the Neurocritical Care Society
  • So You Think You Can Interpret an EKG?
  • 2015 LLSA Review Course
  • Operations Management Update: What You Need to Know in 2016
  • Responding to the Disaster — When Your World Becomes Austere, Jointly Provided by USAAEM
  • Public Enemy No. 1 — Obesity: Challenges in the Management of the Morbidly Obese in the Emergency Department
    Jointly Provided by CAL/AAEM
  • Resuscitation for Emergency Physicians
  • 2016 Medical Student Track

Our keynote speaker this year is Dr. Zubin Damania, otherwise known as ZDoggMD. Those of you familiar with YouTube and social media have probably seen his medical parody videos. Dr. Damania also has serious accomplishments in medicine and has a critical message for us. Dr. Joseph Lex, Jr., will also provide a keynote talk as he reflects on 49 years in emergency medicine. This promises to be a “can’t miss” talk. Keep tuned for other possible surprise speakers as they are confirmed.

The conference will also feature several dynamic plenary talks including:

  • Amal Mattu, MD FAAEM — Cardiology Updates
  • Peter DeBlieux, MD FAAEM — Critical Care You Need to Know
  • Corey Slovis, MD FAAEM FACP FACEP — Resuscitation Updates
  • Evadne Marcolini, MD FAAEM FACEP — Neurological Critical Care
  • Mimi Lu, MD FAAEM — Pediatric Updates

The Academy has always worked to bring our top speakers back while providing an opportunity for young, talented voices to rise up and become tomorrow’s educational leaders.
